We are a volunteer organization and receive no monetary compensation for our work. We are activists who have established contacts with women overseas and worked in many places around the world. We see ourselves as educators and communicators. We welcome assistance from others who are interested in our activities. We are incorporated as a non-profit activity of Educational Beginnings, Inc., a 501(c) (3) tax exempt corporation.
Our mission is to educate and mobilize support for NGOs in developing countries that help women and their families. We seek an audience of women who want to learn more, offer their services, or make monetary contributions to NGOs that are run by women and that help women and their families. We hope to provide a link between our readers and NGOs around the world that need help and deserve support.
In 1980, Ellen Boneparth created a California nonprofit organization to
provide innovative educational activities. The first project of Educational
Beginnings was International Women's Studies Institute (IWSI) which operated
women's studies programs in cross cultural settings from 1981 - 2010. IWSI
held programs, sometimes several times, on five continents. IWSI met
in Greece, Turkey, Israel, Kenya, Hawaii, Australia, Latvia and Lithuania,
Spain, Guatemala and Nepal.
In 2010, Educational Beginnings is launching its second project, Women's Giving
Tree, which is an outgrowth of contacts with women around the world
that originated with IWSI. Women's Giving Tree aims to educate readers
of its web site about deserving NGOs in developing countries that serve
women and their families.
